Salvator ROSA (Arenella 1615 - 1673) "The Genius of Salvator Rosa" Original etching and drypoint signed at the bottom in the cartouche "Salvator Rosa" datable to 1661 according to Bozzolato or to 1662 according to Wallace, reproduces the theme of the relationship between the artist and his genius, represented crowned with ivy and in the act of offering his heart to sincerity. Beautiful specimen in the third and final state with all the touch-up retouches, printed on laid paper bearing the “Lettere in Arme” watermark similar to Heawood 3323, referable to Roman paper production of the late 17th century, with large margins beyond the imprint of the slab, slightly burnished and with a stain on the low edge but overall in excellent general condition. Among the various preparatory drawings known for this engraving, the one of the National Prints Office in Rome stands out, the plate is kept in the National Chalcography. Bibliography: Bozzolato “The engravings of Salvator Rosa” Padua 1973 n ° 87.
